Nobles Tombs

The area El qurna takes its name forme the peak of the mountain El-qurna which means the horn.More than 500 private tombs can be found scattered over the foothills of Theban necropolis .Tombs belonged to nobles such as governors, viziers, priests, generals of the army, government supervisors, overseers of granaries, royal scribes and overseers of gardens.

The Tombs spread over an area of about three kilometers from Dra Abu El Naga in the north to Deir El Medina in the south .There are 7 sites for Nobles tombs

The most of scenes in Nobles valley are daily life. Here I have selected  Roy tomb Located in Dra Abu El Naga Tomb TT255

Roy, who lived at the end of the 18th dynasty during the reign of Horemohb.

The tomb is small, consisting of only one small chamber with a niche and burial shaft, but it is well decorated. The quality, detail and bright colours of its paintings, makes up for the tomb’s diminutive size.

It is one of the 2 tombs in Dra’ Abu el-Naga’ that is open to the public. Roy was a “Royal Scribe in the Estates of Horemheb and of Amun,” during Horemheb’s reign. His wife, who appears with him in the tomb paintings, is named as Nebtawy, or ‘Tawy’ for short. There is very nice scene for the onion from the ancient Egypt.

THE ONION OF EGYPT

In Egyptian hieroglyphics, the word “onion” is written HDw, with sometimes the general plant determinative instead of the three onions. It should be noted that many authors translated HDw as “garlic”; it seems that they are wrong.

Onions were part of the offerings always presented to the gods and to the people, sometimes mixed with other vegetables.

Medical-magical properties assigned by the ancient Egyptians to the onion

Besides its use in daily food, a popular belief was given to the onion:

Numerous medicinal, circulatory and anti-inflammatory uses were given to it, to such a point that it became an almost universal means to remove illness and the bad eye.

It had anti-snake properties (curative, preventive, repulsive). A property celebrated at the time of the festival of Bastet, in February. A closeness exists between HDw “onion” and HD “to destroy”.

In mummification, it is known from the XIth Dynasty it was used for its antiseptic and deodorizing properties. It was buried in the body, on the body, between the fabric strips around the mummy’s legs.
